CATRIONA LE MAY DOAN TO HEADLINE OPENING CEREMONY OF WORLD RINGETTE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Catriona Le May Doan, a member of our Calgary AA Ringette community, is an ambassador for the 2017 World Ringette Championships. Her athletic accomplishments and leadership in sports make her a great choice to represent Canadian Ringette.

Mississauga, Ontario – November 20, 2017
The Mississauga Ringette Association is pleased to announce that Canadian sports icon, Catriona Le May Doan, will be speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2017 World Ringette Championships on Monday, November 27. The ceremony is free and open to the public and will take place at 7pm at Celebration Square in Mississauga (300 City Centre Drive). There will be an opportunity for media to speak with Catriona just before the ceremony at 6pm.
Catriona Le May Doan is a three-time Olympic medalist and five-time world champion, who is known as the ‘fastest woman on ice.’ She is the first Canadian individual, and only Canadian female, to defend a gold medal at any Olympic games. She is also an Officer of the Order of Canada and a Gemini award winner for Best Sports Analysts for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. In her spare time, she coaches her daughter’s ringette team.
The 2017 World Ringette Championships will see seven national teams competing for world titles. Junior national teams from Canada and Finland will compete in a best of three Junior Pool; senior national teams from Canada and Finland will compete in a best of three Sam Jacks Pool; and national teams from Czech Republic, Sweden and the United States will compete in a round-robin President’s Pool. Finland’s senior team and Canada’s junior team currently hold the world titles that were captured at the last World Ringette Championships in Helsinki, Finland. The event, which is held every two years, runs from November 27 to December 3 at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga (5500 Rose Cherry Place).
