Throughout the season, AA teams and members show support for our own and others through community activities. Check back for updates!
Far away from the rink, a dedicated group of our Ringette Dads skipped the beach to support the local community in Los Cabos, Mexico. Now an annual post-season trek—they take the opportunity to give back and demonstrate the community spirit that helps make Calgary AA Ringette one big family. Please read about their contribution below.
CALGARY AA RINGETTE IN MEXICO! Dads help feed local kids…
For six years now, our group of Calgary AA Ringette Dads have been hitting Los Cabos, Mexico, for some R&R after a long ringette season. A couple of years ago, we got off the beaten trail and hooked up with a local charity group, Feed Los Cabos Kids (www.feedingloscaboskids.org). It’s a very different world out there once you get away from the resorts and restaurants, and see what these kids and families deal with on a daily basis—just getting food on the table is a challenge.
Like our own AA athletes, these kids were full of energy. After feeding them a good meal, we handed out a few soccer balls as gifts (thanks Shawna Hart!) and Coach Leigh showed them all how to eat a cookie the fun way—starting with your forehead! Former AA President Gary Hart also helped with a little babysitting. I guess us Dads learned a few things hanging out with our daughters and their Friends First attitude.
If you’re ever in the Cabo area, we encourage you to contact this great organization. It’s a few hours of your time and the experience is very rewarding. Bring your cookies, smarties, ping-pong balls and any other Minute To Win It games you can think of. Crazy fun!

Our Ringette Community has been deeply affected by the Humboldt Broncos crash. We stand with all those impacted, expressing our heartbreak and sorrow, showing our support in many ways.
Many of our AA teams get involved to support community initiatives, especially during the holiday season.
On Saturday, October 7, many from the ringette community, including Calgary AA and Zone 2 AA, came out on October 7 in support of the Road to Worlds 5K Run/Walk. It was a beautiful fall morning, and our Junior Team sent out a thank-you from their bus in Mississauga (training camp). Photos were sent out on Twitter from many Walks across Canada, including Edmonton and Ontario. The countdown to the World Ringette Championships continue!

On Sunday, September 10, 2017, well over 200 of us came to North Glenmore Park and the Ovarian Cancer Walk of Hope in support of the Sauer family. Very well organized by Veronica Day (and many others who helped), Calgary AA, the Ringette Community, and friends and family came together wearing pink Team Jenna shirts or white hats to herald this important cause.
