#12 -- Support for Kayla Blackwell and family

This season saw the AA Ringette Calgary community rally behind the Blackwell family in support of Kayla Blackwell, an AA Ringette Calgary athlete who is battling stage 4 cancer with incredible courage and relentless optimism. Kayla underwent emergency brain surgery in February just prior to her team U19AA Heat winning gold at provincials and received the cancer diagnosis in March. A GoFundMe fundraiser was set up by her team to help support the family with the difficult journey ahead. The overwhelming response from our Calgary community - and the amazing ringette community across the country - in support of Kayla's GoFundMe was beyond incredible. A Meal Train was also set up to assist the family with keeping their focus on Kayla's hospital treatments. Every September, all of our AA Ringette Calgary teams and community walk together with Team Jenna in support of the Sauer Family and in memory of Jenna Sauer, an AA Ringette Calgary athlete and coach.
